Never ask a girl with winged eyeliner why she’s late

I never expected to post about makeup, but this was a special case. Why you ask? This weekend is the first time my winged liner has ever been symmetrical! I usually shy away from wearing too much eye makeup because whenever I try something fancy such as a smoky eye, it comes out looking like I got a black eye.

My biggest obstacle: the winged liner. Somehow, the 2 sides never look the same. You’ve probably heard all the same tricks as me:

  1. Use a credit card or something with a straight edge to draw the line
  2. Follow the bottom angle of your eye for the wing (this apparently doesn’t work because eyes aren’t always angled exactly the same!)

After years of trying various tricks, here is the only one that has worked for me: keep your eyes open, look in the mirror and draw a faint wing on each eye.

When you are finished and done, your eyes will be open so of course you want to draw the wing as it would appear. Using this tip and months of practice, I have finally been able to master the winged liner!

I also wanted to write a makeup blog to draw attention to my Kat Von D lipstick. I’ve spent years looking for that perfect “berry/plum” shade for the fall but every shade I’ve found has aways been purple. As beautiful as the color is, I am definitely not bold enough to wear it. I am so excited to have finally found the perfect shade! The Wolvesmouth shade from the Kat Von D studded kiss line is the perfect mix of “purple”yet appropriate for daily wear and I’ve also noted it is more of a stain. The filter and lighting in my picture make it seem more red but it is definitely the color you see when you click on the link below.

I wanted to focus on makeup for this post and it saddened me when I realized I didn’t take a picture of my outfit because I absolutely love this romper from Banana Republic (links below for the romper and my shoes).

This was definitely the best outfit for a Friday night out to a bar in 80 degree weather!
